    Description

A fantastic antique George III 18K gold and black enamel mourning ring, dated to 1807 and inscribed to Sir Stephen Lushington, 1st Baronet, Member of Parliament and three term chairman of the East Indian Company. Sir Stephen Lushington was born in 1744, the third son of the Reverend Henry Lushington. From 1782 he was a director of the East India Company, deputy chairman from 1789-1790 and chairman for three terms: 1790-1791, 1795-1796 and 1799-1800. He was a Member of Parliament from 1783-1784, returning to parliament in 1790 where he remained for the rest of his life. He was created a Baronet on 26 April 1791. The Lushington Baronetcy of South Hill Park, Berkshire still exists today, with the 8th Baronet born in 1938. Sir Stephen Lushington died in 1807. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of Georgian aristocratic history which is getting harder and harder to find! This fabulous solid 18K gold mourning ring has a central circle of black enamel flanked by two thinner bands of further black enamel, the enamel with gold inlay reading 'SIR STEPHEN LUSHINGTON - BART OB 12 JAN 1807 AE 63'. The ring has very fine gold millwork on the outer edges. The ring is fully hallmarked inside the band with 'MG' for maker Matthew Govett (registered London 1803), date letter 'L' for 1806, the lion passant and George III's head. The ring tests for 18K gold. The ring is approximately a size 8. The band is approximately 6mm wide. The ring has a total weight of approximately 4.6 grams. The ring is in excellent condition with only very light wear and with fully intact enamel. Thanks for looking and please take a look at my other items!

    Terms of Sale
    TERMS OF SALE & RETURNS
We make great efforts to honestly and accurately describe each item we list. We back this up with many photographs, all with a close-up zoom option for detailed inspection. Due to the majority of our items being antique/vintage and often unique it can be difficult to determine age and as such all our items are sold 'as is'. However, if we are not certain about the age of an item we will either not mention an age or say the item is being sold as a later or modern piece and then leave it up to more experienced buyers to determine the exact age. Items are not returnable if it was not of the age/value you were hoping it to be with no exceptions. If we place a date on an item we guarantee it to be of that period or earlier. If you require further pictures or more information about an item, please let us know prior to bidding or purchase. Items cannot be returned for any condition issues either shown in the pictures or mentioned in the listing. As many items we sell are one hundred years or older we will not accept returns for wear consistent with the item's age. Any item mentioned as sold 'as is' in the listing will not be eligible for any form of return or refund. If it is determined an item is eligible for a return, the item must be shipped back within 48 hours, insured and tracked. A restocking fee may apply. We are very easy to work with and welcome any and many questions during our listings, so please let us know if you have one! Thanks again for looking!
